It sounds a bit weird, but did you know that James Bond, the famous British spy was "officially” born in Wattenscheid, Germany?


You may ask why? Is there any proof? Look behind the curtains, real spy stories and the connections to Essen and Krupp...

At the beginning only a few Bond enthusiasts and journalists knew about this story. Many reporters did not believe Tobias and thought that he had probably become somewhat crazy. In the meantime however, his hypothesis has been attracting the attention of many nationwide newspapers; it also featured in radio and TV programmes. Moreover, the Times, Times Radio and other English and even Brazilian newspapers reported about the Bond Club; they were especially interested in the connections between James Bond and the Nazis, which were not at all fictional.

Last, but not least: James Bond`s birthplace, Wattenscheid also starred in quiz shows!

Tobias Schwesig is chairman of the BOND CLUB Wattenscheid e.V. He founded the club in 2020 to celebrate the 100th "official" birthday of James Bond at Wattenscheid and to promote this knowledge on a global scale. He organised many successful exhibitions in Wattenscheid, Bochum and even in Southern Germany. Now, six years later a museum will soon be opened in Wattenscheid to celebrate the connection between James Bond and his city.
